Your first day

From a rock to a reputation

You spawn like any wipe — a rock and the clothes on your back. But this isn't a normal server. Before you chase money or power, get set up in the right order. Here's the path from fresh spawn to a name on these streets.

01

Link your Discord Do this first

Linking unlocks your gang and police chat channels in Discord. In Discord turn on Settings → Advanced → Developer Mode, right-click your own name → Copy User ID, then in game type /linkdiscord <your ID>. You only do it once — it covers gang and police.

/linkdiscord One time
02

Survive & gather Get on your feet

Gather wood and stone, craft basic tools, and keep yourself fed and warm. Everything in the city runs on scrap — it's the currency for rent, licenses, drugs, tools, and vehicles. Start stacking it. Check your money and status any time with /pinfo.

Gather · Craft Scrap = money /pinfo
03

Get an apartment Your home base

Apartments are your safe storage and respawn point. Find an open unit in the city and buy it, then keep it by feeding upkeep scrap into its terminal. The terminal holds up to 300 scrap — about 3 days of rent. Let it run dry and you're evicted, losing what's inside.

Buy · Upkeep 300 scrap = 3 days
04

Choose your path Who will you be?

Now the city is yours to play. Run with a gang, join the police, or carve out a life of crime solo. Your choices write your record — and your reputation.

Gang Police Criminal

Everything costs scrap

Rent, driver's licenses, lock picks, drugs, vehicles, bail — the whole city trades in scrap. It's not just another resource here; it's cash. Keep a reserve, because falling behind on rent or getting hit with fines can put you back on the street fast.

Pick a life

Four ways to play the city

There's no single way to win Rust City — only the role you choose to live. Switch it up between wipes, or commit to a story and see where it takes you.

Brotherhood

Run with a gang

Open /gang to view the gangs and join one. Gangs get a protected build zone to fortify, private in-game gang chat with /g, and — once you're linked — your gang's own Discord channel. Strength in numbers.

The badge

Join the police

Becoming a cop is granted by staff — ask in Discord. On duty you enforce the law: arrest criminals, jail them, and keep the peace. You get a patrol car, a uniform, and the police Discord channel while you serve.

The hustle

Live a life of crime

Cook and deal drugs, stick up shop vendors, and pull heists on the bank and stores. Every score builds your bankroll — and your rap sheet. Get good, get rich, and try not to get caught.

Straight & narrow

Stay legit

Not every citizen turns to crime. Gather, trade, build, buy a home, and stack scrap the honest way. The city needs civilians too — and staying clean keeps the cops off your back.

A roof over your head

Apartments & upkeep

Buy a unit

Your base

Find an open apartment in the city and purchase it. It becomes your locked storage and your respawn point — the place you build a life out of.

Pay your rent

Upkeep terminal

Deposit scrap into your apartment's upkeep terminal to keep it. It caps at 300 scrap, which covers about 3 days. Top it up before it empties — if rent lapses you're evicted and everything inside is lost.

Let your crew in

Team access

Teammates you're grouped with in game can access your apartment while you're on the same team. Leave the team and that access ends automatically — no one keeps a key they shouldn't have.

The come-up

Making money

Scrap runs the city, and there are plenty of ways to earn it — some legal, most not. Pick your hustle.

Cook & deal

The drug trade

Buy ingredients and seeds from the drug dealer — walk up and press E to shop. Grow your plants, cook your product, then sell it to the buyer (press E on them). Set up a lab in your apartment and run a real operation.

Stick 'em up

Rob the vendors

Aim a gun at a shop vendor up close to rob them — they'll hand over goods, or draw a weapon and fight back, so be ready for either. Kill one and it's a murder charge on top of the robbery. Prefer to pay? Press E on a vendor to buy from their shop with scrap instead.

The big score

Heists & break-ins

Banks and stores have locked, armored doors and real loot behind them. Buy a lock pick from the dealer and use /pick, or blow the door open. But a breach trips the alarm — armed guards can spawn and the cops get pinged. Move fast and get out.

Clean money

Trade & luck

Send scrap to other players with /transfer, or take a gamble on the city lottery with /lotto. Buying from vendor shops beats robbing them if you'd rather keep your record clean.

The other side of the badge

Crime & punishment

Break the law and it follows you. Charges stack on your record, cops come looking, and jail time is real — but there's always a way back out.

Charges

Your rap sheet

Crimes add charges to your record — theft, assault, robbery, murder, unlicensed driving, and more. Each carries jail time. Check what you're wanted for any time with /charges.

Getting arrested

Cuffs & the cruiser

A cop can cuff you, load you into a patrol car, and haul you in. Once booked, you serve your sentence in jail — the total of everything on your record. Every arrest is posted publicly in the city's arrest-log channel.

Doing your time

Jail

Serve out the clock and you walk free with a clean slate. It's dead time, so it stings — the deterrent is the point. Keep your nose clean and you'll never see the inside.

Making bail

Buy your freedom

Don't want to wait? Pay /bail to get out early. It costs scrap — freedom has a price — but it beats sitting in a cell. There's also /bribe if a cop's willing to look the other way.

Dirty cops

Corruption

The badge isn't above the law. An officer caught doing dirt can be charged with corruption and stripped of their badge on arrest — losing the uniform, the patrol car, and the police channel all at once.

Choose a side

Gangs & the force

Gang life

Territory & loyalty

Join through /gang. Your gang gets a protected build zone where only members can build — your turf to fortify. Coordinate quietly with gang-only chat: type /g then your message.

Gang comms

Your private channel

Link your Discord and joining a gang automatically drops you into that gang's private Discord channel. Leave the gang and the channel access is pulled. One crew, one room.

On duty

Serve & protect

Cops arrest with /arrest, cuff with /pickup, /load suspects into the cruiser, and /jail or /unjail. Spawn your patrol car with /pcar. Resign any time with /leavecop.

Police comms

The precinct channel

On-duty officers get the police Discord channel to coordinate. It's granted when you're made a cop and pulled the moment you go off duty, get revoked, or lose the badge for corruption.

Beyond the game

The city on Discord

Rust City runs live in Discord too. Link once and the right channels open up as you play — plus there are feeds anyone can follow.

Step one

Link your account

Enable Developer Mode in Discord, right-click your name, Copy User ID, then run /linkdiscord <id> in game. Use /unlinkdiscord to undo. Unlinked players still play fine — they just don't get the private channels.

Auto access

Gang & police rooms

Once linked, joining a gang or going on duty grants the matching private channel automatically — and it's removed when you leave the gang or the force. Your role always matches your status in the city.

Public feed

Arrest log

Every arrest in the city is posted to the arrest-log channel — who got taken down, for what, and the sentence. Watch your rivals fall, or your own name show up.

Live alerts

Robbery alarms

When a heist kicks off and an alarm trips, it broadcasts to a Discord alert channel in real time. Cops watch it to respond — criminals should assume the whole city just got the message.

Get around

Vehicles & rides

The city's big — get yourself some wheels, wings, or armor. Note: driving a car or flying needs a license (buy one to avoid an unlicensed charge), but horses are free to ride, no paperwork.

/vehicle

Vehicle menu

Open the vehicle menu to see what you can call in. Your rides are stored and can be re-summoned — leave one somewhere and you won't lose it.

/boat

Hit the water

Spawn a boat to work the coastline and reach spots the roads don't. Handy for quiet approaches and getaways.

/heli

Take to the sky

Call in your personal helicopter and store it between flights. Flying needs a pilot's license — grab one or risk the unlicensed-flying charge.

/tank

Roll heavy

Buy and deploy your own tank, then hop into the driver's seat with /tankdrive. It's the ultimate flex — and the ultimate problem for anyone in your way.
